Welcome to DomeHome Canada

The interest in unconventional homes is very high due to many factors. The high
cost of conventional homes is driving some to look at attractive alternatives. We
have seen homes made from a variety of materials, some interesting and some so abstract
as to question sanity of the builder. Depending on location there are homes build
from STRAW, RAMMED EARTH, TIRES, SHORT LOGS, BOTTLES ETC. However the most practical
and most efficient as well as the longest life home is the properly constructed
underground home. Made from poured concrete life expectance is in excess on 1000
years and coupled with efficiency and low maintenance these homes have a large following.
The demographics of interest are in our favor since the younger people have through
education a greater degree of understanding of energy conservation and environmental
factors. They are in tune with everything that is available in an underground home.
Also it appears that they are able to think out side of the box in most cases. We invite you to read further about our unique project.

Lots been happening this week. I spent yesterday morning on opening up the knockouts that were not big enough with an electric 60 lb jack hammer. This was a real treat for me repairing someone else's mistake but I learned that I have very good concrete, maybe too good especially when you have to alter it. Retaining wall is being poured today and I installed the vent pipe for cooktop down draft as well as combustion air source for wood burning cook stove we intend to install in the garage. Plumber showed up and will start on Monday. As well, I met with heating contractor with options for in-floor heating system and my automation engineer showed up to measure up for some of that system. We will take photos this weekend and get them on the site ASAP so you can follow our progress. I now take two days off work and everything to relax with my lovely wife on our anniversary trip to Collingwood. After that I will welcome my stepson back from Lakehead University where he just finished getting his BA in Business Administration. Things are looking great so have a wonderful weekend and here's to good health. Royce/Tatiana

This was a great day for us; we started to backfill some of the modules. I thought it would be harder but installing the insulation and having the power shovel place the earth against it made it an easy job. Here are some photos of our today’s work. We also dug the trench for missing retaining wall and found that some of the orifices for water and vents were way too small so I booked a jack hammer for Monday to rework the concrete wall to accommodate the stove vent that must be 6” and garage stove fresh air source vent to 4” (presently they both are 2” high). Next Saturday we will do final backfilling and hope we have all the necessary lines buried (water, gas, electrical, telephone, etc). I am even running a few extra so that I can install some optional equipment later on. Keep an eye on this site we will have lots of new photos to add and explain what we are doing. Bye for now. Attended trade show Friday to get some ideas on decorating and came upon some interesting new products in home heating using geothermal sources as well as conventional energy. Since I want to do this right, it takes some research and time to get your head wrapped around all the different concepts. There is some consistency to the pitches that helps and there are some ongoing discussion. I hope to have excavator in house on Monday to finish the removal of excess floor and get to work on plumbing. We will have additional photos some time next week as we progress and hope to have AQUASEAL totally installed on roof area so that some backfill can be started. Other than that, nothing has changed but lots to happen soon. Yours in good health. Royce/Tatiana

What a week we have had! One of my partners, Michangelo Artistic Flooring Design Inc., has landed a contract with Martha Stewart Design Center in North Carolina and the contract was as result of a contact from our web site. We have a fantastic following with 4500+ people reading every page and over 25000 pages read with 60,000 hits in only 90 days.
On Wednesday Tatiana and I attended Guelph University for a presentation of the work done by the students. It was a most memorable event and the discussions on alternative housing most inspiring and informative. If all students are as dedicated as my group, Canada is in good hands for the immediate future.
We intend to finish AQUASEAL this weekend and get on with the floor excavation as well as get the missing retaining wall installed since we need it to mount the electrical meter. We then can look into backfilling the perimiter. Meeting with plumber and electricians this weekend and hope to finalize all these matters. Bye for now and I will keep in touch real soon.
