Welcome to DomeHome Canada

The interest in unconventional homes is very high due to many factors. The high cost of conventional homes is driving some to look at attractive alternatives. We have seen homes made from a variety of materials, some interesting and some so abstract as to question sanity of the builder. Depending on location there are homes build from STRAW, RAMMED EARTH, TIRES, SHORT LOGS, BOTTLES ETC. However the most practical and most efficient as well as the longest life home is the properly constructed underground home. Made from poured concrete life expectance is in excess on 1000 years and coupled with efficiency and low maintenance these homes have a large following. The demographics of interest are in our favor since the younger people have through education a greater degree of understanding of energy conservation and environmental factors. They are in tune with everything that is available in an underground home. Also it appears that they are able to think out side of the box in most cases. We invite you to read further about our unique project.

As mentioned before, the stone has been replaced and I learned today that electricians will be in on the weekend to do the wiring. I picked up my front door from Fibertek this morning and it looks great. The fiberglass frame expands and contracts the same as the glass so there is less chance of air leaks and energy losses. When it is installed I will have photos but that is a week away. Next I have to do some manual leveling of stone where skidsteer could not drive over pipes in ground and wait for electricians to do their magic as well as curcuits for security and automation system. More on that later; also, I intend to go into great detail on how to shop for deals in case you wish to build your own home and if done correctly you can save a ton of cash. It takes some advance planning and space to store acquisitions. I will see you again on the weekend with more info and photos. Bye for now. Royce /Tatiana

We finished wiring for the central vac to-day and this PM the skidsteer service was in to replace the stone that was removed in order to lower the floor to proper elevation. I have contacted the electrician so he con get to work asap and then we do the plumbing and in floor radiant heating tubing. We are working on a special septic system that will provide the very best in waste treatment in order to be enviromentaly secure. Hydro is supposed to be in this Friday to inspect the service then we can backfill that part of excavation. All is progressing and there will be lots of photos for how to do it enthusiasts. We are very pleased over all project to date less those unfortunate screwups that occured. My Problem with well driller has been resolved to both our satisfaction. It appears one of his office staff gave an improper quote and he is going to live up to that quote. The way things came together with the excess billing and cash up front before we got our well report was a real shock but I recieved a valid explanation that I accept. It appears he is routinly hired to do well tests by realestate agents and on occasion has been left holding the bag so he is very cautious and this spilled over on me. Keep in good health and we will be back real soon. Royce /Tatiana

The plumber has done the drains and it was not a bad job to do. Now I have to have it inspected and this has been ordered. Friday I will work out a schedule for plumbing of hot and cold water, floor insulation central vac line and radiant heating tubing then we can pour the floor and work on finishing it up. I hope to have most of the contractors on site to finalize quoting and I still have tie septic system to choose. It is moving very fast now that we have the drains installed. Stay tuned and I have some plumbing photos to add very soon. Royce/Tatiana

We are back from our mini vacation to Beautiful Collingwood and a week of lousy weather for house construction. Photos will be installed since my web master Alex is staying with us for a few days and I will put him to work. I had a nasty surprise from my well driller, he quoted $200.00 for the well test and billed me $642.00, it seems he is upset that I did not purchase the pump from him so he decided to get even. I will go into greater detail later but I have given him time to repent his evil ways or face the consequences. This is fair to both of us for now. I have some leaks at the cold seam between modules and have devised a fix that should work since the seam is too big for the aquaseal to seal on its own but the rest of the house is dry thanks to aquaseal. I am going to locate source of leak by sprinkling soapy water on the seam and blow with leaf blower from inside and see what happens on outside. I will concentrate sealing efforts at area of bubbles and reseal for about one foot on either side just to make sure. This may not be necessary since the clay soil is a very good water seal by itself but I want to be very sure of proper seal before I backfill. Photos should be installed early this PM. Stay tuned for more info. Royce/Tatiana

The retaining wall has been poured and electricians will install a meter and run power into the utility room right away. From there we will install well pipe and electrical wire and I intend to run several extra 1" plastic lines outside for future circuits as we think of them. All water lines inside the house will be between the two layers of Styrofoam board and this will conserve hot water as well as keep cold water same temp as it is pumped. I hope to take some photos this morning and get them on the site right away. Have the best week of your life and see you when we get back. Royce/Tatiana
