Welcome to DomeHome Canada

The interest in unconventional homes is very high due to many factors. The high
cost of conventional homes is driving some to look at attractive alternatives. We
have seen homes made from a variety of materials, some interesting and some so abstract
as to question sanity of the builder. Depending on location there are homes build
from STRAW, RAMMED EARTH, TIRES, SHORT LOGS, BOTTLES ETC. However the most practical
and most efficient as well as the longest life home is the properly constructed
underground home. Made from poured concrete life expectance is in excess on 1000
years and coupled with efficiency and low maintenance these homes have a large following.
The demographics of interest are in our favor since the younger people have through
education a greater degree of understanding of energy conservation and environmental
factors. They are in tune with everything that is available in an underground home.
Also it appears that they are able to think out side of the box in most cases. We invite you to read further about our unique project.

Saturday and Sunday we spent working on floor insulation and wire mesh as well Sunday was dedicated to fastening outside insulation on with contact adhesive. The job went well and all panels are fastened to the outside wall ready for final layer. We used 5 gallon of adhesive for this job. We plan to install a product that looks like real stone but is made of fiberglass. This product comes in 4 x 9 ft sheets and is fastened with mechanical fasteners such as tapcon screws. We used 2 inches of eurothane on outside walls with an actual R value of about 22. I wish to thank Anna and Eugene My step daughter and her husband for their help on the outside insulation. Great job well done. Some new photos should be installed early in week so stay tuned and then we finish plumbing and heating coils and pour the floor. Yea Hoo Rock and Roll. Bye for now Royce / Tatiana

After a day off visiting my 2 yr old grand daughter we will be back to work on Friday. We will finish the floor insulation and reflector barrier as well as install the wire mesh. Concrete is due to be poured later next week then we can install windows and doors and have a partial secure home. We have had some items stolen by person's unknown but we think their parents were not married. I will have cameras installed very soon then we will have a record of visitors and stop some of this anti social behavour. We hope to have several plastering contractors in to see project and get the news on finishing the interior walls as well Tatiana has ordered the kitchen since it takes about 20 days to prepare. In this time we should have quite a bit done and move in date is before the end of June. Also we are waiting for a tip for my airless sprayer to arrive so that I can spray on the final coat of AQUASEAL to ensure no possible leaks through concrete. There will be more photos some time after long weekend and my web master is off to Chicago to a wedding so it may be Tuesday or Wed before they get installed. Have the best weekend of your life and see you soon Royce/Tatiana

We have to stop work for now and wait for electrical inspection on electrical piping that we have installed. They have given me a date of MAY 30 and that is a real bumber. I hope to discuss this with the inspector and see if there is anything we can do to make progress quickly. We have been most impressed with popularity of web site and in particular the number of persons that wish to build this kind of home. I have over a dozen serious persons some with building lots in posession. As we progress I have found many areas on construction that can be improved upon to make progress much easier. Three times I have had to rent jack hammer to open up knockkouts and chip away part of footings to accomodate wiring, plumbing and other utilities that would be impossible the way it was left. All these things can be done right the first time with some planning and common sense. I have many photos of piping and wiring and hope to have them installed very soon so you may view the progress. Wish me well on Electrical inspection and see you soon. Royce/Tatiana

We had a great weekend with the electricians working all weekend and another day or two to finish up. On top of that we had a great barbeque down by the pond with many friends. We used flexable conduit on the electrical since it was easy to lay in small trenches scratched out of the stone on the floor. There was much planning for the layout and measuring to ensure that the conduit came up in the right places to meet center of partition walls etc. The drawings I have gave little detail on some important measurements and trades people had to try to measure drawing and use the scale for some locations. I will supply much better deawings when I start building. We will start plumbing for hot and cold water Tues ??? and on Wed I hope to finish the electrical and rest of plumbing. I have booked the cement contractor for next week for the floor. Here are some photos from the last weekend showing electrical wiring works. Keep tuned for more action. Royce/Tatiana
