Welcome to DomeHome Canada

The interest in unconventional homes is very high due to many factors. The high cost of conventional homes is driving some to look at attractive alternatives. We have seen homes made from a variety of materials, some interesting and some so abstract as to question sanity of the builder. Depending on location there are homes build from STRAW, RAMMED EARTH, TIRES, SHORT LOGS, BOTTLES ETC. However the most practical and most efficient as well as the longest life home is the properly constructed underground home. Made from poured concrete life expectance is in excess on 1000 years and coupled with efficiency and low maintenance these homes have a large following. The demographics of interest are in our favor since the younger people have through education a greater degree of understanding of energy conservation and environmental factors. They are in tune with everything that is available in an underground home. Also it appears that they are able to think out side of the box in most cases. We invite you to read further about our unique project.

As promised we have installed more photos of plastering and skylight work. I have to get some aluminum brackets made up to install the fans in the skylight wells to keep the warm air moving down where it can do some good. The tip of the skylight is about 16 feet high so it is imperative to move all that warm air down. The boiler is installed as mentined and the floors are warm, this is without a doubt the most comfortable form of heating avalable. Never any draft warm feet all the time and no noise associated with heating. The boiler is 92% efficient and not only heats the floor but the hot water for the home . We use an indirect hot water tank meaning that the boiler sends water into coils in bottom of tank heating the water in the tank without water to water contact. This tank should last almost forever with this system since deteoration is near none existant. I may go into more detail later on the boiler as I get facts from the manufacturer on their system. Still want to do some landscaping and paving of driveway before winter and will call my cement contractor today to check out his avalability. Bye for now Royce/Tatiana

My appologies for not adding to the story sooner. Lots to do and no time to do it also I had problems with internet provider and had to get it cleared to do my work. We now have the boiler in and can take a nice hot bath with out heating water via electric kettle. We were one month with out hot water and you do appreciate hot water when you do not have it. Canadian Thanksgiving weekend was spent painting and cleaning the yard from debris. Photos show us painting ceiling and skylights and we did some walls. I will get photos of kitchen nearly complete and proper grading on the roof.
We are working on the windows and hiring a contractor to do the ceramic tiles in the wash rooms as well as hanging the doors on interior. I will get photos of the boiler showing all the energy saving equipment that makes it a great system. This week we will try to finish window arches and clean up some flaws in ceiling plaster and get ready to paint the living, dining, kitchen module. It is looking great and will only get better. I want a cement pad in front of the garage door and living room patio doors. I have paving stones for the area in front of master bedroom and the two spare(guest) bedrooms. This will help in keeping dirt from tracking in plus we will have the drywall work done and this is nothing but a dust creating problem. By for now and I promise to get back with more info and lots of photos. Royce/Tatiana

The electricians are comfinished and inspector has passed instalation to this point now we can close in the walls. Plumbers have been installing vent piping and drain for various appliances and the laminate floor is going down and looks great as well the kitchen cupboards are ink place waiting for the doors. Some new photos are ready to install in web site so take a look. We had torential rains last Friday and Tornados in area but outside of flooding we came away ok but others lost homes, barns and one township office was destroyed. Will get more photos and install real soon since lots of changes for the good. We even were able to frame around windows where contractor left the opening 5 inches too big. Bye for now Royce/Tatiana

Moving ahead to move in day. Electricians should be done Wednesday and then get inspection. Have not settled on boiler but have some very interesting choices and one is very high tech. We will start to install the floor as soon as electrical work is done since we need it in for final inspection. I am not worried about future damage since quality laminate is near bullet proof. Have to do some trimming around the windows due to prime contractor leaving the openings 6 inches too high. Do not ask how that happened but it left a difficult area to be trimmed and look proper, it can be done but will take time to have proper appearance. I hope to have photos installed later in week but my web master is on holliday and may not have access to high speed computer. We will get back real soon. Royce/Tatiana
